NEW YORK (CNN) -- Pfizer Inc. has received $5.7 billion in sales in the fourth quarter for Viagra, according to a report that appears in the New York Times.
The company said Monday that the $5.7 billion sales were for products that are made to treat erectile dysfunction, but the company also plans to launch other products and add products to its line of prescription drugs in the coming months.
In the United States, Viagra and other medicines are approved to treat erectile dysfunction. It is the first drug approved to treat erectile dysfunction in men.
The United States, which has about 30 million prescriptions for Viagra, is among those prescribed for erectile dysfunction.
Viagra also is the first drug to treat erectile dysfunction in men. The drug works by increasing blood flow to the penis, which allows an erection to take place.
